500 and Counting!

In these trying times, it is good to stop occasionally to reflect on what has been achieved despite very difficult circumstances.

For the Royal Alexandra and Albert School this includes the fact that the School remained open continuously from February to July. The school opened again for the autumn term and has managed to offer education and co-curricular activities for over 1100 children whilst complying with government guidelines.

Another achievement that could easily have gone unnoticed, was that the School has become so popular it now has over 500 boarders. This is significant because it places the Royal Alexandra and Albert School alongside 30 other major British boarding schools with over 500 boarders, including Eton, Harrow, Wellington, Winchester and Marlborough.

The boarding ethos at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School supports the achievement and welfare of the individual within the close-knit community of the boarding house. Indeed, it is this element of the School that also makes it popular amongst parents living nearby. They value the extended day and pastoral support on offer alongside excellent teaching.

Headmaster, Mark Dixon said “I am delighted to be able to celebrate this significant milestone. It is a major achievement in a difficult year, where there were months of lockdown, Brexit reduced access for EU boarders, and boarding families had to cope with quarantine restrictions.

More parents than ever have chosen to enrol their child at this School and it is heartening that so many families recognise the benefits of boarding education at this time.”

To celebrate this achievement, the Headmaster cut a specially decorated ‘500’ cake in the company of the Admissions Team who worked throughout the summer to make sure the 500 boarders could be admitted safely.  The cake was shared amongst boarding staff who are caring for the boarders.
