Nov 08 - Pupils prepare for gas attack

Pupils at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School stepped back in time this Wednesday when they came to school dressed up as children from the time of WWII. The children from Year 4 and Year 6 are studying WWII as part of a project that covers literacy and history.

Mr Spearman the Air Raid Warden and Mrs Yates from the WVS taught pupils important skills for children in the war, like using original WWII stirrup pumps, how to use gas masks, fire prevention and understanding the sounds of air raid warnings.

Headmaster Paul Spencer Ellis said “The children have put themselves in the place of children in WWII and this gives them a good appreciation of the hardships endured during this difficult time in our history.”
