Marketing Mentoring Programme

Sixth Form students are currently deciding which universities they wish to apply for and what courses they want to follow. To help them on their way and better inform their decisions, a number of Year 13 students took part in a mentoring programme and spent a day at Mindshare, a marketing agency situated in London, to experience a day in the marketing industry.

The world-wide agency shares an office building with companies which are household names, including Google and NBC Europe, and boasts a roster of high-profile clients, such as Coca Cola and Nike.

Students were warmly welcomed and started their day with a lecture from Mindshare’s Global CEO who explained in further detail about the agency’s company, the franchises they operate, and gave further insight into their clients.

Then students were set to work. They were given a brief for a £2.5 million Ben & Jerry’s advertising campaign, currently being worked on by the company. In groups they were asked to complete a task on the brief and, at the end of the hour, present their ideas to the other groups and the Mindshare employees who were present.

Year 13 student, Matt O’Toole, who took part, said “The whole experience was an absolute blast, and I personally learnt a lot about advertising and the marketing world which genuinely informed my future career decisions.”
