Individual and Team Success at District Athletics Tournament

School records were broken, expectations surpassed, and fantastic sporting performances were achieved by pupils of the Royal Alexandra and Albert School at the District Athletics competition.

The School’s squad consisted of some of its most talented young athletes in Years 9, 10 and 11. As with previous years, pupils did well across the different disciplines. But the highlight of the event was the overall win of the Intermediate Boys squad – the seventh in the last eight years! They put in a strong team performance, reaching the podium in ten disciplines and winning the 100m Relay.

Other notable wins went to Hector Calder, who came first in the Junior Boys division in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump; Natasha Murray, first in the Junior Girls High Jump; Silver Franscois, first in the Intermediate Boys 200m; Luke Beattie, first in the Intermediate Boys Discus; and Tom Reynolds, first in the Intermediate Boys Long Jump.

It was also a day for breaking records, which saw Amy Beattie and Nicholas Smith break the school record for the Junior Girls and Boys 1500m, respectively. They were joined by Kendra Hilliard who broke the school record for the Intermediate Girls Long Jump.

Head of PE, Ms Charlene Kaye, said “The results from the District Athletics competition surpassed our expectations this year as we had a depleted squad. The students who took part really epitomise everything this school is about, and I am incredibly proud of them and the team work they all showed. We have some courageous and gutsy kids here!”

Ten of the School’s pupils have now been selected to represent South Surrey at the Surrey Schools Championships on Saturday 10th June at Kingsmeadow Stadium.
