Girls Go for Gymnastics Gold

Three pupils from the Royal Alexandra and Albert School won medals at the District Gymnastics Competition, which took place on Thursday 4th February. Amy Beattie, Sheridan Elstob, and Amelia Boyer won two gold medals and a silver.

It was a tough competition with a number of strong participants, but the girls had worked hard to improve their skills, attending the School’s gymnastics club every Tuesday afternoon. Amy Beattie, Year 8 Flexi Boarder, said of the competition, “It was really fun and I really enjoyed being there. Everyone taking part had to do the same floor routine on the day, so it was all about who could do it the best and the neatest.” Amy went on to win a gold medal for her age division, even though she had sprained her toe warming up on the vault. Sheridan won a gold medal for the Year 9 age division, and Amelia took home silver for the Year 8 division.

Headmaster Paul Spencer Ellis commented on the girls’ wins, “I am delighted to hear that Amy, Amelia and Sheridan have done so well at the District Gymnastics Competition. We aim to give our pupils a lifelong interest in sport by encouraging them to participate in a number of different activities, clubs, and competitions. I am pleased that their hard work has paid off and they have achieved success in a competitive arena.”
