Chair of Governors lands on his seat

The new adventure playground in the Junior Department was just too tempting for the Chair of Governors of the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Reigate.

The new play equipment which includes a tree house, climbing walls, trim trail and outdoor dance studio, was officially opened on 20th May by the previous Chair of Governors, Mrs Joyce Keegan. Following the formal ribbon cutting ceremony, the current Chair of Governors, Mr Bill Gillen and other invited guests were shown around the equipment by pupils. This proved to be too much temptation for Mr Gillen who climbed into the tree house and shot down the slide, landing with a bump at the bottom. This was greeted with surprise and laughter by the children and adults who were present for the opening ceremony. Luckily, the playground has a surface which ‘bounces’ so Mr Gillen survived the experience without injury.

Having been properly tested by the Chair of Governors himself, the new play equipment is well and truly ready for the children to enjoy at breaks, lunchtimes and after school.

The Head of the Junior Department, Dr Ines Salman said “We hadn’t expected quite such an eventful opening ceremony but this has really been a day to remember. The children are thrilled with the new equipment and I am pleased that Mr Gillen shares their enthusiasm for the playground. On a serious note, I would like to thank Mr Gillen, other Governors and staff for their support in making this project a reality.”
