Double Ofsted ‘Good’

The Royal Alexandra and Albert School has more Ofsted inspections than other schools in Reigate. This is because it is a boarding school so has a separate inspection for boarding as well as the usual inspection for the school itself.

Both of its most recent inspections have given assessments of ‘Good’ with outstanding features. This is a great achievement as both were carried out after the introduction of the new tougher Ofsted inspection framework.

The Boarding inspection was carried out in November 2014 and the report was published on 11th February. The boarding inspection was ‘Good’ overall with two of the four categories ‘Outcomes for boarders’ and ‘Quality of boarding provision and care’ being assessed as ‘Outstanding’. But the real story is to be found within the report. Here are some of the report conclusions:
- Boarders enjoy caring and respectful relationships with staff and each other
- Boarders thrive within an environment which encourages and assists their personal growth and development
- Feedback from boarders, parents and carers is overwhelmingly positive
The report also includes a quote from a pupil “I love living here alongside my friends”.

Headmaster Paul D Spencer Ellis said “This report gives a real insight into modern boarding which is a million miles away from what many parents and young people might imagine.”

Deputy Head - Director of Boarding, Carl Bingham said “This is an excellent report that recognises the hard work of staff and rich programme of activities provided for all pupils at the School.”
