Jun 08 - From Special Measures to Outstanding in just 6 years

The Royal Alexandra and Albert School achieved the highest grades possible in an Ofsted inspection, just six years after coming out of special measures. The School was graded as ‘Outstanding’ in every category of its assessment on 4th-5th June 2008. This amazing turnaround was achieved under the leadership of Headmaster Paul Spencer Ellis who joined the School in 2001.

Osted inspectors said “The Royal Alexandra and Albert is an exceptional school. It is strongly led by the headteacher whose vision for, and commitment to, the pupils is shared by the senior leadership team and the staff. Together they work purposefully to meet the needs of an unusual and diverse school population.”

Headmaster Paul Spencer Ellis is delighted that the School has achieved recognition for its achievements but stresses that he is committed to delivering further improvements. “This Ofsted report is public recognition of the hard work and commitment of pupils, teachers and staff at the School. It is a tremendous achievement and everyone is justifiably proud of the success of the School. We are now working on projects to increase the size of the School to make more places available to local children as well as boarding pupils. A new science block is under construction, boarding houses are being extended and permission has just been granted to create a tennis academy.”
