Strong team offers top tips for fitness

Pupils at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School welcomed some very strong visitors to their School on Thursday. Terry Hollands, who has been Britain’s Strongest Man three times, body builders Lyndsey Beattie and Aaron Lambert and nutrition expert, James Collier came to the School to share their knowledge of fitness and reaching the top of their sport.

Pupils started the evening with a Soca Boxx session with Jason Benjamin of Fitness Forumz, who runs regular sessions at the School. There was then a question and answer session with the guests. Pupils asked questions about fitness, training and nutrition and picked up tips on how to improve performance.

Sixth Form student, Janet Bunjo said “As a boarder, it has been great to be able to do Soca Boxx in the evenings. It means I am able to keep fit doing an activity I enjoy and is a contrast to the team games and gym workouts. It was great meeting the visitors this evening and it was interesting to learn how they trained and achieved their goals.”

Jason Benjamin adds "I organised this seminar so pupils can learn more about fitness and meet people who have reached the highest level in their field. It took 18 months to get all the key players together but I think it was worth it. Pupils really enjoyed meeting the visitors and asking questions about how they achieved their high levels of fitness."

Headmaster Paul Spencer Ellis commented “It was good for pupils to learn more about fitness and nutrition and participate in a type of exercise they enjoy. We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities to pupils including a fitness centre, team games and dance. It is particularly important for boarders to have access to a wide choice so that they can find something that suits them.”
