Karate Winner

Jenna Kelly doesn’t come across as the fighting type but she has hidden strengths when it comes to Karate. The quiet 14 year old came home with first prize in her category after the BTKA National Championships in Aldershot on 10th March. This was her third gold medal win and the second defence of her title.

Green belt, Jenna, has been attending Karate lessons at Redhill Washinkai Karate Club for seven years. Members of the Club attend team and individual events throughout the year. The event at Aldershot was an individual event but the whole team went along to support its competitors.

Jenna explained “Karate at my level is largely a non-contact event and you have to have a lot of control. Each round is for two minutes and you win with one decisive move or by winning the most points.”

She enjoys being part of the Redhill team “As long as you train hard and do your best, everyone will be proud of you. You work together as a team.”

Jenna attends the Royal Alexandra and Albert School and Headmaster Paul D Spencer Ellis comments “It is wonderful to see Jenna achieving success at a sport she clearly enjoys.”
