HIV Talk

Sixth Form and Year 10 students attended a talk today about HIV/AIDS. The talk was given by Emma Cole who has herself lived with HIV for over 20 years.

Emma explained how HIV has affected her. She talked about the treatment she needs to keep her healthy and about the bouts of serious illness she has suffered. She spoke, very movingly, of the reactions she has had from family and friends and how they coped with the news.

Deputy Head of Sixth Form Emma Kemp-Gee explained “There is still a lot of ignorance about HIV and AIDS and it was helpful for students to get the facts from someone who has first-hand knowledge. Emma has a great gift for communication and students were really interested in what she had to say. They now have a much better understanding of the illness.”
