May 08 - Youngsters beat adults to win award in Music Festival

Singers from the Royal Alexandra and Albert School impressed judges at the Reigate and Redhill Music Festival on Friday 16th May. Six Year 8 pupils from the School entered the category ‘Vocal Ensemble, any age, up to 10 voices’, and despite the all-adult opposition, came first in class after being awarded Honours – one of the highest marks possible. This is the fourth year in a row that pupils at the School have won this award, though it is the first time these pupils have entered the competition in this category.

The Group of singers comprised Mollie Bishop, Chiara O'Leary, Chloe Pearson, Amber Fitzpatrick, Lauren Widnell, Amelia Gask and they sang two-part harmony arrangements of ‘Panis Angelicus’ by Franck and ‘Down by the Riverside’ – a traditional Gospel piece.

Director of Music at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School, Josephine Rose said “I am absolutely delighted with all six girls. They have worked very hard this term and their performance was outstanding as a result”
