Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day was marked at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School on Friday 9th November with a service of Commemoration in the School Chapel. The Service was attended by Dame Sarah Goad, Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Major General (Rtd) Tim Cross CBE, Brigadier Roger Hood, Deputy Lieutenant for Surrey, and Councillor Roger Newstead, Mayor of Reigate and Banstead.

Many pupils are members of uniformed organisations and there was a procession of Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides and Cadets at the start of the service. Opening prayers were led by the Chaplain, Fr Paul Johnstone, and Reverend Sue Weakley, Assistant Honorary Curate of the Merstham and Gatton Team Ministry.

The Address was given by Major General Cross. He described, in very moving terms, the huge numbers of casualties in war and the impact that every casualty has on the families who were affected.

The Rolls of Honour (those lost in active service since the First World War) were read by Ross Gardner and Chloe Rutherfoord (Head prefects), Mr Roger Collis (Parishioner of St Andrew’s Church at Gatton), Mrs Diana Bromley (Foundation Secretary) and CSM Josh Todd (ACF).

Earlier in the morning there had been a short service for younger pupils at the School’s flag pole.
