Fairytale Fancy Dress

Fantasy became reality when junior pupils at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School came to school on Thursday. Pupils had dressed as their favourite fairytale characters as part of the World Book Day celebrations.

During Book Week literacy lessons had been based around fairy tales as a way of encouraging greater enjoyment from reading and experiencing the writing of different authors.

The fancy dress day was just one of a number of events that had been arranged during the week. The children eagerly joined in during a visit from ‘West End in Schools’, which used performance to promote themes including literacy and friendship. There was also a workshop with author Ruth Young, where children had an amazing opportunity to immerse themselves in a fantasy world.

Headmaster Paul Spencer Ellis commented “I was impressed with the fancy dress efforts made by both children and staff and my thanks to Miss Williams, the literacy co-ordinator, for putting together such an exciting week for the pupils.”
