July 2010 - Prize for art inspired by music

16 year old Louise Baker impressed judges at the Cre8tion Competition this week. She won second prize for her artwork which had been inspired by music - Richard Blackford’s “Mirror of Perfection”.

The competition, which had been organised by the Reigate and Redhill Choral Society as part of their Legal and General sponsored Community Development Programme, aims to involve local youngsters in music and art. Music Director, Peter Farrant, came to the Royal Alexandra and Albert School to talk to pupils and they then developed artwork based on inspiration from the music they had heard. This year’s piece is Richard Blackford’s “Mirror of Perfection” which was inspired by the painting of the Porziuncia (the chapel where St Francis of Assisi spent much of his life).

Three pieces of artwork from pupils at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School were amongst the 10 finalists to appear alongside the performance of the music at St Martin’s Church in Dorking and Louise Baker was awarded second prize. Four other local schools were involved in the competition.
