A Level & BTEC Results 2023

The Royal Alexandra and Albert School is delighted to announce the excellent achievements of our Year 13 students in their Level 3 qualifications. Their hard work and commitment have culminated in strong results, with 76% of A Level grades awarded A* to C, demonstrating the high academic standards our students continue to uphold. Several subjects stood out for their exceptional performance, with Film Studies, French, Chemistry, and Product Design achieving a 100% pass rate at A* to C grades.

The A Level results this year mark significant progress on last year’s results, with a 15% increase in A*-C grades and a 4% rise in A*- A grades. These improvements reflect the growing success of our Key Stage 5 provision.

The school is proud to report a 100% pass rate for BTEC qualifications, with an impressive 91% of students attaining Distinction* to Merit grades. Additionally, this year saw exceptional results in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), undertaken by over half of our Year 12 cohort. 93% of students achieved an impressive A* to C, with 48% securing the top grades of A* to A.

These results reflect a marked improvement for the school across nationally benchmarked categories, reinforcing the positive feedback received from OFSTED in the last academic year that saw the school’s Sixth Form provision rated as ‘good’.

The school is committed to preparing students for a range of pathways and careers. This year, students have chosen to follow a variety of exciting degree options, such as law, fashion management, history, and psychology, with the majority of students securing their chosen universities. 83% of students either placed in their first or second choice university, a figure that is above the national average.

Amidst the many student successes, there was Thomas Bickell and Benjamin Lehain, Non-Boarding students who were in early to pick up their result envelopes. Having joined in Year 3, both have spent the last 11 years growing and excelling academically at the school. This morning, they were thrilled with their outstanding results which included many A*s and As. Thomas will be reading Mathematics at Durham University, and Benjamin will be reading Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath. Both are looking forward to this exciting next step in their lives.

Other notable successes included students attaining places at both the University of Oxford, to read Spanish and Linguistics, and Keele University to read Medicine. A quarter of our students have accepted places at Russell Group universities, or have chosen to pursue international programmes. Other students, such as Daniel Strathearn, are going in a different direction. Daniel said, “After an amazing seven years at RAAS, I am now looking forward to fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot.” After passing a rigorous selection process, Daniel is already six weeks into his degree in Air Transport Management with Airline Pilot Training at Leading Edge Aviation Academy.

Headteacher Morgan Thomas said:

“At the Royal Alexandra and Albert School, we are dedicated to cultivating a culture that celebrates each student’s achievements. The resilience and determination our students have shown during their A Level studies are as commendable as their academic results and will undoubtedly be invaluable in their future pursuits.

The success of our students is a testament not only to their hard work but also to the support received by their families and our colleagues, who have guided them throughout their studies and celebrated their many achievements over their time at our school. We extend our best wishes to our students as they embark on the next exciting chapter of their academic and professional journeys.”
