Kent House

Kent House is a boys’ boarding house for students in Years 9-13.

The patronage of the Dukes and Duchesses of Kent dates back to 1848 when the Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria’s mother, was the Patron of a fundraising sale supporting the Orphan Working School and Alexandra Orphanage, two of the school’s founding institutions. Kent House pays homage to Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, who held the position of the school’s Vice-President during the construction of the new boarding house. In 1958, the Duchess of Kent marked the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Orphan Working School with a visit to the school.

The Head of House is Mr Jason Maynard.

Originally from Sussex, Jason first started working with children as a volunteer with the Red Cross and local youth services. This led to a career spanning 23 years (and counting!) working with young people in various pastoral and residential roles.

Beyond his main role as Head of House, Jason actively supports the co-curricular programme, lending his expertise to various day and residential activities, including memorable school trips to Morocco and Iceland. Jason is a Reservist and leads the Army Cadets.

Jason is dedicated to creating a positive and enriching environment for Kent boys. He aims to foster a house community that promotes kindness, honesty and respect, in a safe environment where each student thrives, grows and finds a sense of belonging.

He lives in Kent House with his wife Kezia and young son, Jax. He enjoys being active, jogging and walking.
