Boarding Houses
Gatton Hall
Gatton Hall is a co-educational Sixth Form boarding house. It is our Grade II listed building and holds a central place in our school community.
Dating back to 1086, a residence existed at Gatton Park when the land was under the ownership of Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William the Conqueror’s half-brother. In 1830, the estate was acquired for Lord Monson, who undertook a grand reconstruction of Gatton Hall. Following a destructive fire, the building underwent a significant rebuild between 1934 and 1936 by then-owner, Sir Jeremiah Colman. Presently, Gatton Hall’s upper floors serve as the residence for the school’s flagship Sixth Form house, offering some dorms with picturesque views across Gatton Park.
The Head of House for Gatton Hall is Mr Webster Richardson.
After a career in the world of business, including being a company director in telecoms, Webster retrained as a Product Design & Technology teacher. To this day, he believes it was one of the best decisions he ever made.
He has lived and breathed boarding since 2010 when he first stepped into the role of Housemaster. Webster joined the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in 2018 from Lord Wandsworth College. Since then, he has established a strong team who instil Gatton Hall’s values of honesty, integrity and empathy. His aim is for every boarder to leave Gatton with a wealth of enjoyable experiences, life skills and lifelong friendships.
Webster is a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and a Duke of Edinburgh assessor. He has led various expeditions to numerous countries over the years as part of the award scheme and previously within scouting.
Webster spends a considerable amount of time fixing things for his Gatton boarders – they still haven’t found something he can’t get working again! In his spare time, Webster is a gadget and car enthusiast and can often be found with his Mustang.
Webster resides in Gatton Hall with his wife, Claire, their daughter, Chloe, and their Westie, Nessie, who is always keen on belly rubs.
