Boarding Houses
Albert House
Albert House is a boys’ boarding house for students in Years 9-11.
The house is named in honour of Prince Albert. In 1864, Queen Victoria consented to the establishment of The Royal Albert Orphan Asylum, one of the School’s founding institutions, as a national memorial to Prince Albert. This long history is still reflected in the name of Albert House.
The Head of House is Mr Peter Gillmore.
Peter grew up in South Wales and the East Midlands. He holds a BA (Hons) and a PGCE in Geography (Leicester University). Peter also completed his NPQH in 2007.
Peter has worked in a number of outstanding educational establishments both in the UK and internationally. He started his teaching career at Ratcliffe College. His first international posting was in Switzerland where he was appointed as Senior Boys’ Housemaster at Aiglon College. In 2003, he returned to the UK to take up the role of Assistant Principal at Hockerill Anglo-European College. From there, in 2010, he was appointed as Deputy Head at the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City, before moving to the UAE, and then taking up the position of Head of Boarding at Regents International School Pattaya, Thailand.
In 2021, Peter was appointed as Head of Boarding at the Nord Anglia Chinese International School in Shanghai before deciding to join RAAS as Head of House. Throughout his career, he has enjoyed the pastoral and leadership positions he has held, but it has always been his intention to return to a boarding position and classroom teaching in the UK where his passions lie.
Peter’s main interests lie with sport and music. Having played rugby to a professional standard in the past, he is still very passionate about the sport. He is a competent and enthusiastic musician. His main instrument is the cornet/trumpet and he has enjoyed performing with prominent bands such as UB40 and Aswad, in addition to playing in some of the UK’s leading brass bands.
When not working in the boarding house, Peter enjoys spending time with his wife, Nabtawan, and his son, Hadyn. Nabtawan is employed at RAAS and thoroughly enjoys being part of the school community. Hadyn is currently studying A Level at Bedales School in Hampshire. He is also a rugby player, and Peter takes great pride watching him play for Farnham.
Peter’s philosophy is that education consists of more than just a transmission of knowledge and the curriculum in the classroom; it has to allow every individual to reach their potential in all areas that an educational establishment can offer. Peter is resolutely committed to the values, principles and practices of boarding education and the potential that such education offers children.
