PE

We have a proud record of success in team sports, particularly as most of our fixtures are against much larger schools. Our Year 10 netball team won the District Tournament and the District League, and the Under 16 rugby team entered the prestigious Worth School Rugby 7 tournament for the first time, beating much larger schools such as Worth and Brighton College. Last year, our Year 10 rugby team won the Surrey Schools RFU County Cup and our First XV rugby team were victorious against Gordon’s School for the Sovereign’s Cup. Many of our students have also achieved representative honours in Surrey County Teams.

We have fantastic sport facilities and extensive grounds which enables us to offer a wide range of sporting activities. We have our own horses, indoor and outdoor sand schools, and qualified riding instructors.

Sport is an important part of life as a pupil here, and we seek to introduce a healthy lifestyle from the start. Our aim is that sporting activities at school will be continued in adult life. Students will not only have PE lessons but also take part in Games Afternoons, giving them 3 hours of timetabled physical activity per week. In addition, students may choose to do sports as part of the Co-Curriculum Activities Programme.

PE Lessons

In Years 7-9, students will do a wide range of sports in their PE lessons, which include cross country, gymnastics, tennis, athletics, hockey, basketball and orienteering.

For Years 10 and 11, students will continue to build on their skills and new sports are introduced in lessons, including football, fitness, trampolining, badminton, rounders and softball.

Rugby, netball, hockey, cricket and dance are taught in Games Afternoons. Every year group has a weekly Games Afternoon where students experience an even wider range of sports. This ensures that we offer a variety of sports to meet every child’s preferences.

Swimming

Swimming is part of the PE curriculum and students in the Junior School and in Years 7-9 have swimming lessons as part of their PE lessons. If students choose to take PE as one of their GCSE options, they will have the opportunity to use the swimming pool on site as part of their course. The School’s swimming pool is also available to students in the evenings, with each House having a supervised weekly time slot.

Fitness Centre

There is a state-of-the-art Fitness Centre on site, with high specification professional gym equipment including running machines, rowing machines and weights. The Fitness Centre is used for lessons and Co-Curricular Activities but is also available for the personal use of Boarders and Flexi Boarders after school, with sessions arranged according to Year Groups and Houses. During term time, the Fitness Centre is open Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 10pm and is overseen by a trained member of staff.

The Co-Curricular activities programme includes sports such as badminton, basketball, football, Australian rules football, cross country, handball, hockey, kayaking, netball, judo, Piloxing (pilates and boxing), rounders, Swimfit, table tennis, Zumba, and rugby (boys and girls).
